Well, I've hit my first roadblock. I have discovered, from multiple sources, including my Uncle (a sixth-generation Houstonian) that Texas does NOT consider itself the South. Texas is simply Texas. As my friend L so eloquently put it, "Texans take the 'free and independent State' thing pretty literally in all sorts of bizarre and sometimes scary ways." She also provided a helpful link from Wikipedia to explain the lay of the land: http://wikitravel.org/en/South_(United_States_of_America)
My deepest apologies to all the Texans who read this. It's just another thing I've learned since being here :) And for all intents and purposes, the title will change, the blog will keep the same address, but I will be sure to include a disclaimer box explaining my misunderstanding.
